Combed American cotton married with New Zealand wool make this a delightfully unexpected group of textiles. During our in-house, organic finishing, the wool plumps and becomes fully integrated with the cotton, creating a soft, brushed hand that enhances both warmth and coziness.

About Oriole Mill

I’ve been sewing since grade school. My uncle encouraged me to pursue fashion design as an art form that had a professional track. Letting my values lead me into formative job and mentorship relationships is how I’ve found my place.

I met Bethanne Knudson, co-founder of The Oriole Mill, while working on an art project around the concept of weaving as craft, industry, skill and labor. I was living in Chicago at the time and told her my dream of owning a sewing factory that mimicked the values of quality and craftsmanship Oriole embodies. She expressed Oriole’s desire to be more vertically integrated with a sewing component. Moving to the culturally rich mountains of North Carolina while pursuing interesting and challenging work was an offer I couldn’t refuse.

I like solving puzzles and making improvements. As an artist, I take a long while to listen, absorbing the movements and issues that surround an idea. I usually hold on to a vision for a long while until I have an outlet to develop the concept into something real. I let the content dictate the form of how it’s experienced, but it’s usually through performance or interactive instillation.

It’s all work, but work is fun. I come from a family of workers. It’s how we show our love. Working is an expression of devotion and self. It’s intimate. It defines me.
